The PRWeek Purpose Awards are back for another great year!

Purposeful business is top of the agenda for most brands and corporations because stakeholders including employees and customers want to know what companies stand for before interacting with them. At the same time, shareholders want positive returns on their investments.

If conducted properly, true purpose results in good business also being profitable business — the two are not mutually exclusive.

But there have been accusations of an increase in “purpose-washing” and inauthentic activities aimed at boxticking and short-term gain rather than truly purposeful long-term strategies.

And critics of ESG (environmental, social and governance) or so-called “woke capitalism” say business has no place getting involved in social issues and should stick to its core operations rather than pursuing what these critics define as a liberal elite agenda.

The playbook is still being written and the fifth annual PRWeek Purpose Awards will recognize campaigns that use creative ideas to further authentic purpose and acknowledge the organizations and individuals behind them.
